NFPA 70E Arc Flash / Electrical Safety Awareness

What your employer must give you

This course teaches electrical safety and arc-flash awareness — recognizing shock, arc-flash and arc-blast hazards, the qualified/unqualified boundary, and when to stop and get an authorized electrical decision. The job-, equipment-, voltage- and procedure-specific training and authorization belong to your employer. Make sure you can get each one:

• Job-, equipment- and voltage-specific electrical safety training for your actual assignment.
• Confirmation of whether your role is qualified or unqualified for the electrical tasks you may encounter.
• The employer’s procedures for achieving and verifying an electrically safe work condition (deenergizing, lockout/tagout, and testing) before any covered work.
• Arc-flash and shock risk assessments, equipment labels, and the approach-boundary distances that apply to your work area.
• PPE selection guidance matched to the incident energy and category for your task.
• The employer’s energized-work permit process and who is authorized to approve an exception.
• The site emergency response plan for an electrical incident, and who to notify.
• Authorization before you troubleshoot, test, repair, or enter any electrical approach boundary — this course does not grant that authority.

If you cannot get these, stop and ask before you continue. This course supports awareness-level training only — it does not replace your employer’s job-specific training, qualified-person determination, safe-work-condition procedures, PPE hazard assessment, energized-work permit process, or emergency plan.
