What your employer must give you
This course teaches the California standard and how prevention, reporting and emergency response work. The specific plan, people and procedures belong to your employer, and section 6401.9 requires them to provide these. Make sure you can find each one before you finish:
- Your employer’s written Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, and where to read it — it must be available to you at no cost.
- The person or job title responsible for implementing the plan at your worksite.
- The primary and an alternate route for reporting a threat or an incident, including one to use when the concern involves your normal contact.
- The emergency alert method, and the evacuation and sheltering procedures for your actual work area — these are not the same as filing a report.
- The hazards and corrective measures identified for your specific job and location.
- Where the violent incident log is kept and how to request records, which must be provided within fifteen calendar days at no cost.
- The named person knowledgeable about your employer’s plan who can answer your questions — required by law, and not something any course or chatbot can stand in for.
If your employer has not given you these, ask. Raising a workplace violence hazard and reporting an incident are both protected — the plan must prohibit retaliation against you for doing either.
Completion documents interactive workplace violence prevention training for California workplaces under Labor Code §6401.9. It is not a legal finding or a professional certification, and it does not replace the employer’s own written Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, worksite hazard assessment, reporting contacts, emergency procedures or the legally required opportunity to ask questions of a person knowledgeable about that plan, all of which the employer must supply and keep current.
