How to Use This Checklist

- 4. Take photos of trucks, yard, and any documents they show you
- 5. Trust your gutโif something feels wrong, it probably is
The Office & Administration
Should be visible. Ask to see if not displayed.
Or ask them to show you on tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov.
No "hidden fees" should appear later.
Get this in writing before paying anything.
Chaos in the office = chaos in training.
Vague answers are a warning sign.
The Training Trucks
More trucks = more driving time for you.
Check for obvious issues: worn tires, rust, damage.
Know which you'll train on and test on.
Ask what type of truck the DMV uses.
Out-of-date stickers = unsafe and non-compliant.
You NEED trailer backing practice.
The Training Yard
Separate from public roads.
Should match DMV test setup.
More space = less waiting time.
No major potholes or hazards.
Not just photos or promises.
The Instructors
They should show you without hesitation.
Class A instructor for Class A training.
You'll spend weeks with them.
Ask "What will a typical day look like?"
Backup if someone is sick or leaves.
Questions to Ask
Get a specific number in writing.
Good schools track this.
Legitimate schools allow this.
Retake fees? Additional training?
DOT physical, drug test, skills test?
Ask for specifics, not promises.
