CDL Grants & Financial Aid

Options to help pay for your CDL training

Warning: If a school is not on the federal registry, you cannot get your license. All schools listed on CDL Schools USA are verified against the 2025 FMCSA database.

CDL training can cost anywhere from $3,000 to $10,000, but there are many financial assistance options available. Here are the most common ways to fund your training.

WIOA Grants

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) provides grants for job training programs, including CDL training. Contact your local American Job Center to see if you qualify.

May cover 100% of tuition costs

GI Bill® Benefits

Veterans can use GI Bill® benefits to pay for CDL training at approved schools. The VA covers tuition and may provide a housing allowance.

Covers tuition plus monthly housing stipend

Company-Sponsored Training

Major trucking companies like Swift, Werner, Schneider, and CR England offer free CDL training in exchange for a driving commitment (typically 1-2 years).

Free training with guaranteed job placement

Private Loans & Payment Plans

Many CDL schools offer payment plans or partner with lenders for student loans. Interest rates and terms vary.

Flexible payment options available

Tips for Getting Financial Aid

  • Apply for WIOA early - funding is limited
  • Compare multiple schools and their financial aid options
  • Ask about scholarships specific to trucking
  • Consider company-sponsored training if you can commit
  • Check with your state workforce agency for local programs
