WIOA Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Individual Training Account (ITA)?

An ITA is the funding mechanism used by WIOA. When your local office approves your funding, they set up an ITA that covers tuition costs at ETPL schools. Funds are paid directly to the school - you never receive cash.

Will WIOA cover 100% of my tuition?

In most cases, yes. WIOA can cover 100% of tuition plus books, materials, and testing fees. Some states have funding caps, but these typically cover the full cost of CDL programs ($3,000-$7,000).

How long does WIOA approval take?

The approval process typically takes 3-8 weeks from initial contact to funded enrollment. Some states have waitlists during high-demand periods. Plan ahead and apply as early as possible.

What is the Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL)?

The ETPL is a state-approved list of schools that can receive WIOA funding. You can only use your WIOA funding at schools on your state's ETPL. Your counselor will help you find CDL schools on the list.
