Frequently Asked Questions

When does a construction site need stormwater permit coverage?

Under the federal NPDES programme, construction activity disturbing one acre or more, or less than an acre if it is part of a larger common plan of development or sale, generally needs permit coverage before ground is broken.

What is a SWPPP?

A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan: the site-specific document identifying pollutant sources, the control measures chosen, and the inspection and maintenance routine that keeps them working.

Does this course qualify someone as a stormwater inspector?

No, and this is the single most important limit to understand. Most states run their own construction general permit with their own inspector qualification and certification requirements. This is awareness training and does not by itself satisfy those state or permit-specific rules.

Who on a crew benefits from it?

Site supervisors, foremen, equipment operators and subcontractor leads who need to recognise a failing control measure, understand why inspections happen after rain events, and know who to escalate to.

How do we find our own state requirement?

Start with the permitting authority for the state the work is in, since many states are authorised to run the NPDES construction programme themselves and publish their own permit and qualification rules.
